Tip to Get Along Better With 'Rents
Okay, since a lot of people are on thin ice with their parents, especially in this time and age, I've decided to share with you peeps a very important tip to getting along better with your parents. A lot of parents, simply searching for someone to vent their anger on, try to bait you. No, I don't mean hiding a hook inside a chocolate cake, then reeling you up.They will try to make you talk back out of frustration and therefore, scold you for doing so. For example, this kid here in scenario one is half an hour late: Mum: Why are you so late? Kid: I missed the bus. Mum: You ought to know better! You know what time the bus comes and go, and you're still using the bus as an excuse? Kid: I really missed the bus! Mum: Don't use that tone of voice with me! You're so late, and you still dare to blame it on the bus and talk back? Kid: But it's only half an hour late, right? Mum: Oh, now it's half an hour late. What's next - but it's only three hours late? Kid: No! I said no such thing! The kid has taken the bait. Now, the mother has an excuse to run around complaining to every Tom, Dick and Harry that her kid talked back to her. Here is scenario two, where the kid avoids the bait and ends the 'discussion': mum: Why are you so late? Kid: Sorry, I missed the bus. Mum: You ought to know better! You know what time the bus comes and go, and yet you still blame the bus? Kid: Sorry. I guess I was walking a bit slower than usual. Mum: You need to walk faster! And you always slouch! Kid: Sorry, won't happen again. Ta-daa!!! Discussion ended, bait reeled up in vain! |
